Chance of Frost

It's Maundy Thursday and I'm knitting away madly on Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn Clark, in Cherry Tree Hill Suri Alpaca in colorway Spring Frost. It's to wear on Easter Sunday (that's this Sunday), mid-morning service. Think I can make it (literally)?

Swallowtail shawl in progress

I've been trying to think of the right adjective for the suri laceweight yarn. It has a tensile quality... slippery, similar to but not exactly like knitting silk or hair... [blank]? Looks like severe blocking will be needed, perhaps even pressing.

Most years my forsythia is in full bloom the first week of April, but this year they're pokey. Apparently they know more about this odd winter than I do – first it was freakishly warm, then bitterly cold, today it's  s*n*o*w*i*n*g, wait a minute, now cold and brilliantly sunny, no, overcast again. Or maybe they've figured out that when they finish blooming I plan to use the lopper I got at the Flower Show [mwaahaha!] and they're faking me out [mwaaha...ha?].

Sparse bloom on forsythiaMethinks: After flowers, chop, chop!
Theythinks: Promise?
Methinks: You betcha.
Theythinks: But not before?
Methinks: 'Course not.
Theythinks: Right-ho, then shan't!
Me: !!!

Er, permit me to assure gentle readers that I don't usually hold telepathic conversations with clever shrubs with a vaguely British accent.

Speaking of vaguely British, as long as I'm waving my freak flag sharing, here's my VisualDNA, first noticed over at Chappysmom.

Not as brilliant as the American Express "My Life" ad, but that featured Robert De Niro and was filmed by Martin Scorsese (YouTube version here). Which reminds me, tickets for the Tribeca Film Festival are on sale now!

Your mantra between now and Saturday (assuming you want to at least block it lightly): just keep knitting, just keep knitting, just keep knitting...

And as far as the conversations with shrubs -- totally normal. I often dialogue with any number of things, washer, car, zipper on a pair of pants. It's a sign of intelligence. I swear.

Untrimmed forsythia -- weee! It will be great once it finally decides that spring is here. I agree, I think the plants know something we don't.

Telepathically communing with your plants? No, not weird in this house. We also pet our seedlings with the understanding that they will grow stronger then if unpet ... no, really! At least we are willing to try. *g*

My forsythia has a date with a pair of lopers too. Good luck with the lovely shawl and finishing by Easter!
