One leg reads "Go Gryffindor Go" and the other reads "Lions for the Cup" (slogans from PoA). Click on the images for a larger view.
Six Sox Knit-alongers will recognize the inspiration was Adrienne's excellent variation on the Go Team Go!! pattern by Soxie. They're child-sized, measuring 7.5 inches (19 cm) from toe to heel. The yarns are washable oddments from stash: some acrylic, some wool, some sock yarn of forgotten content, probably wool and nylon.
I enjoyed making them so much that I'd like to spread the HP happiness and give them away to a lucky person. Just leave a comment by midnight November 8 (Election Day roundabout Exit 151) telling me why you want them. I'll pick the recipient on November 9 and will send the socks via U.S. mail (sorry, I don't have Owl Post). There should be ample time for the socks to arrive before the GoF movie launch.
So, take your Felix Felicitas, concentrate on your goal, and

What great socks and what a wonderful idea to give them away. Best of luck to everyone leaving comments!
How cool! I am just in awe. Sock are beyond me, and insartia - at that level or any level - is too.
Those socks are so cool! And I'm not just sucking up to you - I'm amazed by the lettering - so perfectly knit! I know my nephew would love those socks - he's read all of the HP books numerous times. I've only read the first 4 so far, but they really are good.
WEll, I know that I can't even come CLOSE to ever knitting up a pair of socks like these. My DS was HP a few years back and is an AVID LOVER of the book series and of all things HP. He is also a hand-knitted sock SNOB. LOVES them, Demands them, wants to only wear them (hoo boy!) and he would FLIP if he could add these not only to his sock collection but also to his HP collection.
Wow! Those socks are way awesome-that's some talent there! It's been nice visiting your blog!
What a great idea! Excellent socks.
Those are beautiful socks. Can you believe that I don't own one pair of handknitted socks! Well, at least not yet.
It's killing me that they wouldn't fit my gigundo feet! If you were to grace me with those fabulous socks I'd [reluctantly (see above)] give them to my nephew, who is a HUUUUUGE HP fan. His mother reads a chapter to him every night before bed - can't you just imagine how much more exciting the chapters would be with Gryffindor socks keeping his toes toasty??
PS Alison sent me.
Wow! Tjose are great socks! I deffinatly want some self striping yarn, but I could find yarn for these socks way easyer! Yay for Harry Potter!
Well, I must say, I have a 10 year old girl (my oldest) drooling over my shoulder as we speak and if she doesn't win, I'll have to knit her a pair!
wooooww! those socks are super awesome. I would love to have them for myself, but my foot is tooo big. However, I found out today that my little brother, whom is 10 years old just started reading the HP books yesterday. I gave him the first 2 before he could even read and he just got started reading them. My mom, whom only speaks Spanish, started reading them too in Spanish just to keep up with my little brother. Oh, also, it would be an terrific birthday gift. He turned 10 this month (10/17)...the same day I turned 28. We share a birthday.....if we were to get them we will give them a good home, promise :).
Those are awesome! I showed them to my son earlier today he told me those were the coolest socks he had ever seen! And I have to agree! I am reading him book six right now he has his scarf and robe and wand all ready for the movie, so exciting! Awesome socks!!
Wow. What beautiful socks! You could give them to someone way more deserving than I am, but would you part with the pattern? You have a real talent there and I have a house full of Potterheads, not all Gryffindor, who'd love house socks...Thanks for posting them!
(p.s. - Alison sent me too...but I'll be back.)
Oooh *putting my name in the goblet*. I think I know *just* the person to give them to if I win!
Not only are the socks great on their own merits, but the fact that you are willing to give them away in time for the movie makes them even more "enchanting"! I think its wonderful =)
Of course I would like to add my name to the growing list of excited hopefuls, even though I never win any blog draws LOL It's worth a shot ;-) I have a very dedicated HP reader who would love to wear these special socks (my little brother. Im 37. He's 9 - long story)
Thanks for having this contest and good luck to everyone!
Oooh I have a great pair of feet for those socks! My son who struggles to read loves to read Harry Potter books! It's one of the only books that really gets him reading!
So count us in on the sock drawing!!
They look great!!
And hey.. since my feet are uber small.. I might have to borrow them!
Wow! Those socks are great, and what a cool idea to give them away:) So fun!
Well to throw my comment intot the goblet, I'd love them for myself but instead I think that a young man named Jack, he's 7, would be a more deserving wearer than I. He is a great big brother and thinks that HP is the best thing since sliced bread, he has been Harry for Halloween twice in a row.
those socks ROCK!
and my niece would think i was the coolest Auntie ever if i actually won them for her !!
I'll throw my name in the hat! I have two kids, 5 and 3, who would love to keep their tootsies warm with HP socks! Nice job on them. :) jeniferknits.blogdrive.com
Hi There, I'd like to be considered for the socks. I've never had a pair of hand knit socks, I like them and Also I should get extra sleuth points ;-). In your email to the RAOK group you just put Jerseyknitter.blogspot.com instead of jerseyknitter151.blogspot.com. I looked you up in the database. I'm off to the ROAK group to give them a headsup. Take care good luck all!, Tori
Ann - The pattern is Go Team Go!! by Soxie, which is available on her website (see the link in the post). In the Six Sox KAL, Adrienne made a pair that inspired these.
Tori - Thanks, I keep forgetting my own URL (eyeroll).
Your knitting skill is superb and your golden socks a wonderful prize.
I am starting a new job next week, teaching English to young Spanish-speakers. These socks would be a wonderful incentive to read the Harry Potter books.
It's like added a good yarn to a great story. Har!
Last year I made a dozen hats and sent them around the country to people I met online. It's a wonderful feeling. Have fun with this one.
Wow, those socks are too cool!
