J is for Judicious

J is for judicious thinning. Tomatoes, I haz them – indeed, possibly too much of a good thing. This spray of fruits is looking crowded to my eye (click to view larger).

I haz tomatoes

So, gentle readers, by the numbers, which tomatoes (if any) would you remove? (DH says, "Nooooo!") Kindly opine in the comments.

I agree with DH - let 'em grow! I think it's just the nature of particular types of tomatoes to grow in clusters. Enjoy the bounty!

Maybe #5 and who's that hiding below 4 and 6?

I concur. Let them grow!

I agree with those who've said "let 'em grow". Unless, of course, you've got a great recipe for green tomato relish....

I got heart palpitations when I read pruning. Heart be still. Let them be. ~ksp

I say leave them be and give the extras to me! ;)

I imagine you would make something yummy with the thinned green tomatoes. It never would have occurred to me to thin that huge bunch. If I had to pick, I'd say get rid of #s 1, 5 & 7. Please let everyone know what you decide. I would like to see the tomatoes ripe.

i'm in the "leave 'em" group. tomatoes naturally cluster. if you're worried about them being on the dirt, put something like newspaper or paper towels under them. unless htat tomato plant is really weak, it should be fine (and then, if it is weak, i would suggest staking the tomato plant, not thinning the tomatoes)
